Well, while it isn't 100%, it appears Scout has a histiocytoma (or commonly called "button tumor.") It is a form of tumor which is almost always benign. The vet is getting a second opinion just for my own peace of mind. These hystiocytomas generally resorb in around 3 months and then generally don't surface again. It is the result of an overproduction of the locally contained (all over the body and in all mammals, humans included) histiocytes, cells of the immune system which act similarly to macrophage immune cells, white blood cells, which help fight infection. it is, in a sense just an overzealous immune system of sorts. So all in all, it seems one of the better, bad case scenarios out of the possible ones. Much better than a mast cell tumor which at this "button's" growth rate would have been indicative of a metastatic tumor. So we are... relieved for the time being. Still waiting to hear back about the sensitivity to drugs... and what we are going to do about spaying.
The vet thinks we should get insurance for her, I'm not sure she is wrong...
